Healing Herbs: Ginger Benefits
The healing herb ginger benefits are many. Here are just a few: - Works on lungs, kidneys, and bowels
- Settles the intestines and helps in morning sickness and motion sickness
- Used in bath water to ease aching muscles and remove toxins
- Induces perspiration and clears the sinus and body of mucous
- Effective against menstrual cramps and hot flashes
Another benefit is that ginger is considered a "warming herb". That's why we often use fresh ginger herbal teas in wintertime to help warm us from the inside out. To make some fresh ginger tea, just grate, or mince some fresh ginger into a press or teapot, add boiling hot water, and steep to taste. It's a very soothing and warming drink. Mostly when we use ginger it's for its calming effects on the stomach and bowels. Upset stomachs and nausea can be treated very effectively and quickly using ginger herbal tea, tincture, or powdered ginger in capsules. We prefer to use the fresh ginger. We always keep fresh ginger in our kitchen for cooking and healing. Whatever we aren't going to use immediately we freeze. If you want to keep some ginger fresh in your freezer, just peel the ginger root, dry it well, and then wrap it in plastic and freeze it. When you are ready to enjoy the ginger benefits, just pull it out of the freezer. It's a simple matter to grate, shave, or slice a little while it's still frozen, and put the rest right back into the freezer. Ginger has such a distinctive and wonderful flavor that it really perks up any dish that calls for it. One of our favorite ginger recipes is: GINGER-GARLIC TUNA ON CUCUMBER SALAD WITH EDAMAME
