What's New for Home Learning Center Members?

The New Chat Room

Josh created a brand new Chat Room for our Friday afternoon chats. He also made it so that you can now view the transcripts for the chats after they are over. That way, even if you can't make it to the live event, you can still read what was said.

These transcripts will be available for 7 days. To see them, just go to the chat room, but instead of entering the room, just click on the "View past chat sessions" link at the top right hand side of the window.

The Friday afternoon chats will resume on January 9th.

Quote of the Week

"Americans can eat garbage, provided you sprinkle it liberally with ketchup, mustard, chili sauce, Tabasco sauce, cayenne pepper, or any other condiment which destroys the original flavor of the dish."

Henry Miller

It's Not Just for Women Anymore!

For the most part, when people hear the phrase "yeast infection" they automatically think of a vaginal infection. But we have found this to be just one of the symptoms that can be experienced when the body is out of balance from too much yeast. And although women tend to me more susceptible to problems with yeast, men can be infected with yeast as well. (It's not just for women anymore.)

The Body's Delicate Balance

The first thing that you have to understand is that yeast is a normal inhabitant of the human body, and the body can tolerate a certain level of yeast as long as the immune system is healthy. The immune system is constantly working to maintain a delicate balance in the body. However, if yeast levels rise to a certain point, they begin to stress the immune system and that balance is upset. When this happens, the yeast is allowed to grow beyond what the body can handle.

But there are other causes of yeast "overgrowth".

What Causes Yeast Overgrowth?

"Yeast overgrowth is partly iatrogenic (caused by the medical profession) and can be caused by antibiotics and cortisone medications. A diet high in sugar also promotes overgrowth of yeast. A highly refined and chemicalized diet now common in industrialized nations not only promotes growth of yeast, but is also deficient in many of the essential vitamins and minerals needed by the immune system. Chemical colorings, flavorings, preservatives, stabilizers, emulsifiers, etc., add more to stress on the immune system."

Elmer M. Cranton, M.D. from his report entitled CHRONIC FATIGUE IMMUNE DYSFUNCTION SYNDROME (CFIDS)

Poor diet, combined with the over-prescribing of antibiotics are major causes of this yeast overgrowth and the subsequent health problems that arise from it.

So how do you know when your body is out of balance?

Symptoms of Yeast Overgrowth

"Common symptoms of yeast infection include headache, memory loss, hyperactivity, irritability, fatigue, depression, kidney and urinary problems, stomach or digestive ailments, skin eruptions, vaginitis, sexual dysfunction, aching muscles, bones and joints, and other health complaints."

Tisha Mecham, from her book Bio-Kinetic Testing for Health

Of course these symptoms can also indicate other infections or diseases. (That's why we recommend that everyone learn Bio-Kinetic Testing.)

How to Regain that Delicate Balance

To regain your bodies balance, you must "starve" the yeast, while "feeding" your immune system. This process begins with your diet.

Eliminate these yeast feeding foods:

-Anything baked with baker's yeast (breads, donuts, pastries).
-Foods that are aged, including cheese, wines, sour cream, blue cheese-type dressings etc.
-All refined sugars. (You can substitue raw honey, pure maple syrup, molasses, or pineapple juice).
-Foods that are "moldy" or "fungus-y". These include mushrooms, peanuts, peanut butter, and leftovers more than two days old.
-Fruits that are very sweet, high in fiber, or have an edible skin.
-Avoid corn products (anything that says "corn" on it)

(This yeast diet information can all be found in the Bio-Kinetic Testing book)

The next step is to feed your immune system.

Take vitamins, minerals, and immune boosting herbs. (It's best if you use Bio-Kinetic Testing to determine which of these your body needs.)

Conclusion

For those of you who know Bio-Kinetic Testing, the simplest way to find out if you have too much yeast in your body is to test.

For the rest of you, if you are experiencing ongoing symptoms like the ones described above, we recommend that you just commit to a yeast cleansing diet and some immune boosting vitamins and herbs for a week or two. Just watch to see if your symptoms start to disappear. If they do, then continue with the diet until they are completely gone.

Herb of the Week:
Cayenne

"Cayenne is a gift to humanity because it has more health benefits than any other food or herb on earth. There are over 3000 scientific studies listed in the National Library of Medicine to support the use of cayenne in preventing and reversing many common health ailments. It is miraculous that a simple fruit like cayenne has healing benefits for a wide assortment of ailments. It has been used as a food, a spice and an herbal medicine for over 9000 years."

From Cayenne: A Remarkable Healing Herb
by Roopa Chari, M.D.

There are so many uses for Cayenne that we won't even bother to try and list them here. For more information about this "gift to humanity", go and to the website and read our Cayenne Page.

This Week's Recipe:
Black Bean and Turkey Enchiladas

We made this dish a few weeks ago when Beth's Mom was in town for the birth of baby Lilly, and it was delicious. (Easy too.)

Black Bean and Turkey Enchiladas

8 six inch whole wheat tortillas

Enchilada Filling
  • 1/2 lbs. of sliced, nitrate free turkey, cut into strips

  • 1 can (16 oz) of black beans

  • 1/2 cup of shredded cheese

  • 1/2 cup of Home Made Salsa

  • 1/4 cup of sour cream
Sauce
  • 3/4 cup Home Made Salsa

  • 1/4 cup sour cream

  • 2 Tbs fresh chopped cilantro

  • 1/4 cup cheese

  • Cayenne pepper to taste (optional)

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease a 13X9 baking dish.

Mix all of the enchilada filling in a bowl. Place a few spoonfuls of the mixture down the middle of each tortilla and roll. Place seam side down in baking dish.

Mix sauce ingredients. Pour over the enchiladas and sprinkle with cheese.

Cover and bake 30 - 35 minutes until filling is hot and cheese is melted.

Coming Soon to NaturalHealthyFamily.com!

Next week we will take a look at our other favorite healing herb, garlic. Garlic is almost as versatile as cayenne as a healing plant and it's yummy too!

Just one final reminder to reserve your seat for the upcoming Family Health Makeover. When the next newsletter comes out, the event will have already started, so don't put it off.
